"How to Train Your Dragon" Franchise to Get Live-Action in 2025

Universal has officially announced that a live-action adaptation of the beloved "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise is in the works, set to be released in theaters on March 14, 2025. This is a major move for the studio, but not entirely surprising given the success of similar live-action adaptations in recent years.

The original "How to Train Your Dragon" film, released in 2010, was widely praised for its beautiful animation and emotionally resonant writing. The subsequent two films in the franchise continued the story of Hiccup and his friends as they battled against foes with nefarious plans for the dragons, while uncovering more and more about the origins of the creatures. The franchise grossed well over $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office, cementing its status as a fan favorite.

Dean DeBlois, the co-writer and co-director of the first film and the sole writer and director of the second and third films, is set to return in a writing and directing capacity for the live-action adaptation. However, no details have been released yet regarding casting or the film's story.

The live-action adaptation of "How to Train Your Dragon" has the potential to be a major success, given the popularity of dragons in film and the proven track record of successful live-action adaptations of popular animated films. Fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating more information about the project and are hopeful that the film will measure up to the highly acclaimed animated films that came before.
